  • 1 lb ground beef (80% lean, 20% fat)
  • 1 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup ketchup (plus extra for topping)
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the chopped onions until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, sautéed onions, breadcrumbs, eggs, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined.
  4. Transfer the mixture to a lined baking sheet or loaf pan and shape into a loaf approximately 2 inches high.
  5. Spread additional ketchup on top for glazing.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  7. Allow to rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
