Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 ½ cups warm water (100°F – 110°F)
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
  • ½ cup milk (slightly warm)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar; sprinkle yeast on top. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Create the dough base: In a large bowl, mix flour and salt; make a well in the center. Add melted butter, milk, and activated yeast mixture into the well.
  3. Knead: Mix until combined, then knead on a floured surface or with a stand mixer for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Rise: Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
  5. Shape: Punch down the dough gently; divide into equal pieces and shape each into balls. Place on a greased baking sheet.
  6. Bake: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cover rolls with a towel for another 30 minutes to rise again. Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
