  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup chocolate chips or melts (semi-sweet or milk)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually mix this dry mixture into the wet mixture until just combined.
  5. Using a cookie scoop or spoon, drop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheets with space in between.
  6. Press your thumb into the center of each dough ball to create an indentation.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are firm. Remove from oven and fill each thumbprint with chocolate chips while still warm.
  8. Allow cookies to cool completely before dusting with powdered sugar.
