- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (Italian or regular)
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 2 cups marinara sauce (homemade or jarred)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil leaves for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Parmesan cheese, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper until just mixed.
- Roll mixture into golf ball-sized meatballs and place them on a lined baking sheet.
- Bake meatballs for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
- In a casserole dish, spread half of the marinara sauce on the bottom. Layer half of the meatballs over the sauce.
- Sprinkle half of the mozzarella cheese on top followed by another layer of marinara sauce and remaining meatballs.
- Finish with the rest of the mozzarella cheese.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes, then remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes until cheese is bubbly.
