  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (Italian or regular)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 cups marinara sauce (homemade or jarred)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Parmesan cheese, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper until just mixed.
  3. Roll mixture into golf ball-sized meatballs and place them on a lined baking sheet.
  4. Bake meatballs for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  5. In a casserole dish, spread half of the marinara sauce on the bottom. Layer half of the meatballs over the sauce.
  6. Sprinkle half of the mozzarella cheese on top followed by another layer of marinara sauce and remaining meatballs.
  7. Finish with the rest of the mozzarella cheese.
  8. Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes, then remove foil and bake an additional 10 minutes until cheese is bubbly.
